Best AIGP prep material: every option compared

Every serious AIGP prep option compared — official training, independent courses, books and AI tools — with honest prices and who each suits. Including ours.

A disclosure first: this site sells one of the options below, so read with that in mind. The comparison is honest anyway — several of these resources are genuinely good, some are free, and the right choice depends on your budget and background more than on any single "best" product.

Start free: the official IAPP documents

Before paying for anything, download the AIGP Body of Knowledge and exam blueprint from the IAPP — both are free. The Body of Knowledge (version 2.1, effective 2 February 2026) is the exam's syllabus: every question maps to it. Every paid resource below should be judged on one criterion — does it cover the current Body of Knowledge, and does it make you practise it?

IAPP official training

The IAPP sells its own AIGP training: self-paced online for around $995, and instructor-led virtual or classroom courses typically between $1,500 and $2,500. It is the official option and tracks the Body of Knowledge by definition, and it is the route many employers fund by default.

Two honest caveats. It is teaching, not practice — you will still need a question bank to convert the content into exam performance. And for self-funders the price is hard to justify when the syllabus itself is free and the exam already costs $649–$799; being official does not, by itself, make it the best-taught course on this page.

Independent expert-led courses

Between the official training and self-study sits a middle tier: video courses from named instructors who specialise in this exam. The two names you will run into most are Dr. Kyle David, whose AIGP Certification Masterclass is sold on his own site with an edition on Udemy, and Saahil Gupta of the School of Responsible AI, whose AIGP Complete Training runs on Udemy. Cohort-style bootcamps on Maven and AI Career Pro's practitioner course sit in the same tier.

These are valid options, and all of them cost well under the official training. The usual checks apply — confirm the edition tracks Body of Knowledge 2.1 — and whichever you pick, plan for a question bank alongside it: video teaches, but repetition is what passes the exam.

Books: the Sybex study guide and others

Wiley publishes an AIGP study guide in its Sybex series — the same series many CISSP and CIPP candidates used — and Amazon lists several independent titles alongside it, such as Nicole Joy Elmgart's AIGP Certification: The Unofficial Study Guide. A book suits people who genuinely read cover to cover, and it is the cheapest structured teaching there is.

One caveat matters more here than anywhere else on this page: AI governance moves quickly. EU AI Act guidance, new standards and Body of Knowledge revisions (currently version 2.1, effective 2 February 2026) all land faster than print cycles, so books date fast and titles still on sale can track the previous syllabus. Check the edition date and BoK version before buying, and treat anything much over a year old as background reading rather than exam prep. As with training, a book also gives you reading, not practice — pair it with questions.

AI tools: ChatGPT, NotebookLM and friends

A genuinely useful newer option: load the Body of Knowledge and your notes into NotebookLM and let it explain, summarise and quiz you, or prompt ChatGPT or Claude to act as a tutor. Explanations on demand, in your own words, essentially free — as a companion for the reading phase it is hard to beat.

Two limits to go in with open eyes about. Configuring it well takes real time — sources, prompts, and checking what it tells you against the actual syllabus — which is study time spent building the tool rather than using it. And the practice questions it generates tend not to reflect the real paper: the exam's case-study construction, with distractors that are plausibly wrong in specific ways, is exactly what generated-on-the-fly questions struggle to reproduce. Use AI as your explainer, not as your question bank.

AI Governance Study — this site

Our entry, stated plainly. This is a practice-first web app built for the AIGP: 65 study-guide topics aligned to Body of Knowledge 2.1 (the Domain I topics are published free here), a 196-term glossary with flashcards, timed mock exams that mix domains the way the real paper does, and per-domain scoring that shows where to spend your next session.

The core of it is the question bank: 492 curated questions — written and reviewed one by one, not generated on the fly — built to the real paper's structure: scenario and case-study stems, multiple-choice and multi-select formats, and an explanation on every question that covers why each wrong answer is wrong, not just why the right one is right. 50 of them are free to read on this site, so you can judge the construction yourself before believing a word of this section.

We compete on two things. Price: full access is a one-off pass at $19, $29 or $49 depending on duration, never auto-renewing — less than most single books, let alone a course. And format: it is an app, not a video library, so a spare ten minutes on your phone in a queue or on a commute is a scored practice session, with your progress and per-domain stats carried across every device. The video courses above teach better than we do; nothing on this page drills you for less.

All of Domain I — 15 topics and 100 practice questions — is free with no card details, which is roughly a quarter of the course. That is deliberate: we would rather you judge the depth yourself than take a comparison page's word for it, ours included.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need the official IAPP training to pass the AIGP?

No. The training is not a prerequisite for the exam, and self-study passes are common. The free Body of Knowledge defines everything the exam can ask; the official training is one way to cover it, best suited to people whose employer is paying. Independent expert-led courses cover the same ground for considerably less.

Is there an official AIGP textbook?

As of 2026 the IAPP does not publish an official AIGP textbook the way it does for its privacy certifications. The nearest things are the participant materials bundled with official training, and third-party study guides such as Wiley's Sybex volume.

What is the cheapest way to prepare for the AIGP?

Free: the IAPP's Body of Knowledge and exam blueprint, plus the free tier of this site — all of Domain I with its 100 practice questions. If you spend anything, spend it on structured practice with explanations, since that is the part free reading cannot replace.

Can I use ChatGPT or NotebookLM to prepare for the AIGP?

Yes, as a study companion — loading the Body of Knowledge into NotebookLM or asking ChatGPT to explain a concept works well. Two limits: configuring it into a reliable tutor takes real time, and the questions it generates rarely match the exam's scenario construction. Use it alongside a curated question bank rather than instead of one.
